M.Phil Human Embryology

Programme Overview

This two-year M.Phil. programme seeks to provide students, scientists and clinicians with advanced theoretical and practical understanding of human reproductive biology, embryology, infertility and assisted reproductive technology (ART).

Admission Requirements

Admission into the M.Phil. Human Embryology programme is opened to:
a. First degree holders (with at least second-class lower division) in appropriate field of study such as Biomedical Sciences and Medical Sciences, Physician’s Assistant and other life sciences (Biological Sciences, Zoology, Molecular Biology, Human Biology, and/or Biochemistry) who have acquired the degree from an accredited tertiary institution.
b. Non-research master’s degree holders in the appropriate and related fields of study as stated above with CGPA of 2.5 or better.
c. All Students must complete an application form attached with copies of certificates, transcripts and supporting documents
d. Attend and pass an interview.

International Students

In addition to meeting the standard admissions requirements, international applications must meet the requirements below:

• Translated Certificate: Transcripts or other supporting documents submitted by international applicants in a language other than English must be translated and certified as copies of the original document(s).

• Evidence of English Language proficiency: International students for who English was not a language of instruction during high school, must submit evidence of English language proficiency, including but not limited to the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

Ph.D Human Embryology

Programme Overview

This three-year PhD programme will provide graduate students, scientists and clinicians with advanced theoretical and practical understanding of human reproductive biology, embryology, infertility and assisted reproductive technology (ART). The programme provides intensive research skills required to successfully conduct higher research into human reproductive biology, embryology, infertility and assisted reproductive technology.

Admission Requirements

Admission into the PhD Human Embryology programme is opened to;
MPhil degree holders in appropriate fields of study such as Biomedical and
Clinical Sciences.

a.  A Master’s degree with CGPA of 3.5 or better in Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, with not more than one grade C+ or lower and B+ or better in Research

b. All applicants must attend and pass an interview.

c. Successful applicants would be admitted provisionally as 1st year Postgraduate Research Students (PRS). On satisfying the clearly spelt out conditions as described by the Thrivus Institute for Biomedical Sciences and Technology, the student would be regularized to be a PhD Candidate.
OR
Admission into the PhD programme may also be opened to students enrolled on the Institute’s MPhil programmes who meet the specified criteria enumerated below. Such students could be upgraded unto the PhD programmes after fulfilling these requirements:

i. Completion of 2 semesters of MPhil Human Embryology programme in
ONE YEAR and passed ALL course work.
ii. Obtaining a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or better with not more than one grade C+ or lower and B+ or better in Research Methods.
iii. Demonstrating an exceptional interest in research.
iv. Attending and passing a prescribed interview.

International Students

Programme Overview

This two-year M.Phil. programme provides graduate students, scientists and clinicians with advanced theoretical and practical understanding of gene therapy as applied to disease management and cure together with applications to engineer novel genetic outcomes.

Admission Requirements

Admission into the MPhil Gene Therapy programme is opened to:

a. First degree holders (with at least second-class lower division) in appropriate field of study such as Biomedical Sciences and Medical Sciences, and other life sciences (Biological Sciences, Zoology, Molecular Biology, and/or Biochemistry) who have acquired the degree from an accredited tertiary institution. Applicants who hold an MBChB degree or equivalent medical degree.

b. Non-research master’s degree holders in the appropriate and related fields of
study as stated above with CGPA of 2.5 or better.

c. All applicants must attend and pass an interview.
